Texas basketball: What Dailyn Swain said about the NBA, the Longhorns and his future
Dailyn Swain starred in his first season with Texas basketball and now projects as a first-round pick. But will he leave for the NBA this offseason?
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Dailyn Swain joined Texas basketball almost a year ago to enjoy further success with his coach at Xavier in Sean Miller , to expand his game on the bigger stage of the SEC and to build his case as an NBA draft pick. By any measure, the 6-foot-8 wing accomplished each of those goals.
But such success comes with a big decision for Swain, a junior who has played his way into first-round consideration for June’s NBA draft. Unsurprisingly, Swain didn’t have immediate thoughts on his future in the locker room at the SAP Center while processing Thursday’s 79-77 loss to Purdue in a scintillating Sweet 16 contest that ended Texas’ season. But he did say he’ll take his time and explore all his options before making a decision about the draft.
“I don't really know about a timeline, to be honest, but it's just a conversation to be had with my family, my coaches, my agent,” Swain said. “Right now I’m just trying to process that we lost a few minutes ago. Right now, I'm just super disappointed I couldn't get the outcome that we wanted for my seniors, for our coaches and for coach Miller.
He deserves to play in the Final Four. I think he will do that one day. ” Texas Longhorns forward Dailyn Swain (3) in the second half of Texas’ 79-77 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, March 26, 2026.
