Liverpool's brilliant plan to replace Cody Gakpo Liverpool have a brilliant plan to replace Cody Gakpo . Liverpool want to compete at the very top, and that means having attackers who deliver consistently - something the Dutchman hasn’t quite managed, especially on the left wing. He’s had his moments, sure, but they’ve been too few and far between to really nail down a starting spot in a team aiming to be among Europe’s best.

A big issue is his lack of impact in one-on-one situations. Modern wingers are expected to take on defenders, create space, and cause chaos — but Gakpo often struggles to do that. Too often, he doesn’t really impose himself.

He can also feel a bit predictable. He loves cutting onto his right foot and getting a shot away, but defenders have figured that out, and it hasn’t worked most of the time this season. It's only frustrated us fans and made it really easy for opposition defenders to play against him.

That predictability makes Liverpool easier to defend against, which is the last thing you want. On top of that, he can drift through games without really making his presence felt. For a team that relies on sharp, decisive attackers, that’s a problem.
