MSU star goalie Trey Augustine 'expected' to turn pro, forego final season

There is a "expectation" that Michigan State star goaltender Trey Augustine's collegiate career is over. The Spartans were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in stunning fashion on Saturday, and it sounds like that was the final time we'll see Augustine in a Spartans' uniform. While nothing is yet official, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects posted on social media on Sunday that the "expectation" is that Augustine will turn pro and join the Detroit Red Wings' AHL affiliate Grand Rapids in the "coming days.

" Augustine has starred for the Spartans between the pipes the last three seasons, serving as the primary goaltender for Michigan State during their three straight Big Ten championship seasons. He had a goals against average under three in each of his three seasons with the Spartans, and nearly below two the past two seasons. Augustine still has one year of eligibility remaining should he surprisingly elect to come back for one final run.

The thought entering the season was that he'd be done after the 2025-26 season and move on to the pros so this latest statement from Robinson aligns with that thinking and isn't a surprise. We will have to wait to see if anything is officially announced in the next day or two but I'd be shocked if we saw Augustine back for one final season at Michigan State. The expectation around Trey Augustine (DET) is that heโ€™ll turn pro and join Grand Rapids in the coming days.
