Jorge Martin focused on consistency over championship talk after COTA victory

After an injury-hit 2025, Martin has returned to form this season. Aprilia’s support has been key, giving him the machinery to compete at the front again, and he made it count with a victory at the United States Grand Prix.
Martin took the Sprint race win thanks to a dramatic final-lap move on Francesco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider had controlled much of the race until Martin seized his chance in the closing moments. Bagnaia acknowledged that Martin was fully deserving of the win, which marked Martin’s 17th Sprint race victory – a new record.
Marco Bezzecchi also crashed late in what was already shaping up as one of Aprilia’s best weekends yet. Aprilia’s RS-GP looks capable of going head-to-head with Ducati for the title, and Martin could well be in contention for his second MotoGP championship.
But that’s not something on his mind right now. Speaking to Sky Italia after the race, Martin said he wasn’t even focused on winning it back in 2024 with Pramac when he edged out Bagnaia by 10 points. “I won in 2024 and wasn’t thinking about the championship,” he said.
“There’s no point in thinking about it or not thinking about it; you just have to go out there, finish the races, and score points. ” “Then, at the end of the year, if I have a chance to win it, I’ll think about it but right now there’s no point in thinking about it. If I can win, I’ll take it.
