Vikings LB Jeff Siemon Has Passed Away

On Saturday, we received word that linebacker Jeff Siemon had passed away at the age of 75. Siemon was the Vikings’ first-round pick, selected tenth overall, in the 1972 NFL Draft after a very successful college career at Stanford.

While with the Cardinal, he won two Rose Bowls and received the Dick Butkus Award in 1971, an award given to the top linebacker in the country. Those accomplishments got him inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. With the Vikings, Siemon was a four-time Pro Bowler as part of an outstanding group of linebackers that included Roy Winston, Wally Hilgenberg, and Matt Blair.

He was a part of three of the Vikings’ Super Bowl teams during his career. He was also a member of the Vikings 25th and 40th Anniversary teams, as well as being named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings of All Time. Siemon never played for any team but the Vikings, spending all eleven of his NFL seasons in purple and retiring following the strike-marred 1982 season.

He and his family continued to live in the Twin Cities area after his retirement.
