The New York Mets obviously made a blockbuster deal to land Freddy Peralta in the offseason, but when it comes to a contract extension, there doesn't seem to be much going on.

David Stearns, who spoke about the contract situation, said that he wouldn't speak about it. Instead of giving any sort of update, he decided to stay quiet, which could be a bad thing, or possibly something is in the works and he doesn't want that to get out there. “I’m not going to comment on any sort of extension or contract talks,” Stearns told reporters.

That alone doesn’t confirm anything, but it does signal that he understands where the talks are coming from. After making the deal the Mets did in the offseason, there's no way they can allow him to walk in free agency, unless he's brutal during the 2026 campaign. Peralta followed that same approach.

“No comments about that; sorry,” he said (h/t SNY). When both sides say this, it usually means one of two things. Either nothing is currently happening, or something is happening, and both sides are asking to keep these talks private.
