Stone Lawless, UT baseball player hit by Vanderbilt pitcher Alex Kranzler’s pitch.

Tennessee baseball player Stone Lawless was struck on March 29 at Hawkins Field, silenced the crowd with a pitch that hit him square in the face. The third game of the series between Vols and Vanderbilt saw Alex Kranzler lose control of his pitch during the top of the third inning. The incident left Lawless motionless for a few moments before medical staff attended to an injury on his face, who then helped him to the dugout.

It was Lawless' first at-bat since he replaced catcher Hunter High as pinch runner. Kranzler's final pitch in the game resulted in six runs and two strikeouts.
