BJJ legend Marcus Buchecha books third UFC bout
Marcus Buchecha has a loss and a draw. Will this one be a win?
A rematch of a 2019 IBJJF world championship bout will take place inside the UFC cage this Spring. Grapplers Marcus Buchecha and Max Gimenis will meet again, this time under MMA rules. The heavyweight bout will take place at UFC Fight Night 274 , which takes place April 25 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. A legendary BJJ practitioner, Buchecha (5-2-1 MMA, 0-1-1 UFC) defeated Gimenis (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) twice in grappling matches prior to their MMA careers. He replaces Allen Frye, who withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons.
Buchecha seeks his first UFC win in three attempts after a debut loss to Martin Buday and a draw vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu. Prior to his UFC tenure, Buchecha had a largely dominant six-fight stint with ONE Championship.
Gimenis has only been fighting for a little over four years. He made his debut in November and was quickly finished by surging prospect Josh Hokit. Win or lose, Gimenis typically makes the judges' lives easier, only having gone the distance once.
