Tottenham sack Tudor with relegation still looming
Tottenham sack Tudor with relegation still looming Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with interim manager Igor Tudor after a reign of just over six weeks, failing to win any of his five league games in charge and pull the club away from the relegation zone. The Croatian’s time in north London began with a brutal 4-1 defeat against rivals Arsenal, before consecutive defeats to Fulham and Crystal Palace and a dismantling at the hands of Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. It comes six days after Tudor’s father, Mario, passed away , leaving the former Spurs boss unable to fulfil his media duties after a sobering 3-0 loss at home to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest left them just a point above the drop.
A brief statement on the club’s website read: “We can confirm that it has been mutually agreed for Head Coach Igor Tudor to leave the Club with immediate effect. Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci have also left their respective roles of Goalkeeping Coach and Physical Coach. We thank Igor, Tomislav and Riccardo for their efforts during the past six weeks, in which they worked tirelessly.
We also acknowledge the bereavement that Igor has recently suffered and send our support to him and his family at this difficult time. Spurs, languishing in 17th place in the top flight, have promised an update on their search for a new manager, with Football365 suggesting a quite sensational “SOS-call” style approach could be made to Forest boss Sean Dyche. The bookies also place former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi and Adi Hutter as frontrunners , alongside current USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino – who himself was in charge of Tottenham between 2014 and 2019.
Tudor’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was an eye-opener for many fans as to just how dire their situation in the Premier League is, the TV pictures telling of the tangible sense of dread that the club will play Championship football next season.
