Steve Kerr sent touching letter to Blue Jays manager after Game 7 loss
Steve Kerr could relate to John Schneider's World Series heartbreak.
If anyone could relate to what Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider was feeling after losing last year's World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a Game 7 heartbreaker, it's Steve Kerr. Kerr and his Golden State Warriors, of course, famously lost their own seven-game championship series to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers after leading 3-1 in 2016. After seeing the Blue Jays go down in similar fashion after leading their series 3-2, Kerr felt compelled to write Schneider a touching letter that the Blue Jays skipper recently shared with The Athletic .
In it, Kerr applauded Schneider and his group for how they carried themselves throughout: "I donโt know you but I felt compelled to reach out after watching your incredible leadership on display during the World Series. Your poise, your strength, your empathy and your confidence all shined through in all the toughest moments. I can see why your players love playing for you.
I was just so impressed every time you were interviewed. Congrats on an incredible season and I'm so sorry for the heartbreak. We lost Game 7 of the '16 Finals to Cleveland in similar fashion, and the pain was real.
But what always survives through the tough losses is the character and connection of the group. The loss wonโt define you, but the way you and your guys carried themselves afterwards will. " That was a classy move by Kerr.
