MLB Opening Day rosters feature 12 former Gators
A dozen former Gators are on MLB Opening Day rosters. Florida baseball fans can follow these guys through the 162-game season.
Major League Baseball started up its regular season this week, and a dozen former Florida Gators appeared on Opening Day rosters. Pete Alonso, Jac Caglianone, Jonathan India Wyatt Langford, Brady Singer, Brandon Sproat and Hurston Waldrep headline the list. The SEC saw 84 former players make MLB Opening Day rosters, and Florida makes up 14.
3% of that list. LSU is the only college with more players on the active roster, with 11, since three former Gators are starting the year on the injured list. In 2025, 17 former Gators appeared in MLB games, the most by any NCAA program.
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan has seen 41 former Florida players make their MLB debut — five more than any other school. The Gators have sent 89 total players to the big leagues. Several former Gators are on the cusp of making their debuts in the Bigs, too.
Franco Aleman (Cleveland), Jud Fabian (Baltimore), Colby Halter (Athletics), Nathan Hickey (Boston), Jack Leftwich (Cleveland), Tommy Mace (Cleveland) and Sterlin Thompson are all at Triple-A for their respective organizations. A number of recent draftees who went to Florida are in Single-A this season, including Bobby Boser (Athletics), Jake Clemente (Miami), Pierce Coppola (Chicago), Brody Donay (Tampa), Fisher Jameson (Colorado), Brandon Neely (Boston), Colby Shelton (Chicago White Sox) and Ryan Slater (San Francisco). Luke Heyman (Boston) is in rookie ball to start the year.
