Tony Vitello reacts to series sweep against Yankees
Tony Vitello reacts to San Francisco's series sweep against the Yankees to begin 2026 MLB season.
New York (3-0) completed a three-game series sweep at San Francisco (0-3) to open the 2026 MLB season. The Yankees won Saturday's series finale, 3-1, at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. The Giants' offense totaled nine hits in the contest.
Rafael Devers (one double) and Luis Arraez recorded two hits each. First-year Giants' manager Tony Vitello recapped the series finale. โThere was a few things that were good,โ Vitello said.
โI mean, I'm sure (Tyler) Mahle wanted to go a little longer, but I thought per his buildup, his start was good. Defense had some highlights and was good, but overall, you mentioned the offense, you know, looking a little more lively, really just more competitive at the plate. Again, it's not about the try hard.
It's just more about some of those at bats, positions we put ourselves in. โWeโre certainly better and the execution was better, too. Guys look more comfortable, more relaxed, and, you know, the numbers don't completely tell that story on the scoreboard, but overall in the stat line and how the game went, certainly was a competitive effort from their part.
