Georgia's Mike White named as head coach candidate for ACC school
Georgia basketball head coach Mike White has been named as a candidate for a major ACC program after leading UGA to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments
Georgia Bulldogs basketball head coach Mike White has been named as a candidate for the NC State Wolfpack's vacant coaching role following Will Wade's surprising departure to the LSU Tigers. White is one of eight candidates that Sports Illustrated named as a possible option for the Wolfpack. White has helped Georgia make back-to-back NCAA Tournament and has led the Bulldogs to three consecutive 20-win seasons.
White has a 78-57 record during four seasons in Athens. Before coming to Georgia in 2022, he was the head coach at Florida from 2015-2022. He helped Florida make March Madness four times, which does not include the 2029-2020 season, which COVID-19 disrupted.
Despite White's recent success, some Georgia fans wouldn't mind him taking a new job. The Bulldogs have been blown out in the NCAA Tournament for two straight seasons. There's no denying that White inherited a difficult task.
The Bulldogs went just 6-26 in 2021-2022 before UGA hired White. White has connections to NC State athletics director Boo Corrigan and was linked the Wolfpack's coaching search back in 2025. NC State has the resources and history to lure someone like White away from a Power Four job.
