Roma reopen talks with Francesco Totti for ambassador role When mentioning Francesco Totti, thoughts inevitably turn to Roma. Last night, during the “Operation Nostalgia” event in his hometown, the former captain stole the show with assists and goals, earning a standing ovation from the fans. These same fans continue to hope for his return to the club, but after a period of optimism, negotiations have stalled.
Initially, Friedkin’s Roma had proposed an ambassadorial role ahead of the club’s centenary (2026-2027), while Totti reportedly preferred a more operational role, creating a divide over the roles to be filled. However, in recent weeks the situation seems to have unblocked. According to La Repubblica, the former captain has intensified contact with the club’s owners, thanks in part to Claudio Ranieri’s mediation.
Negotiations, which had stalled over Totti’s role, are now resuming. After initially failing to agree on a clear proposal, Roma appears to have found a solution: Francesco Totti will be the club’s brand ambassador ahead of the club’s centenary in 2027, though without an operational management role, at least for now. In the future, however, an expansion of his powers, especially in the sporting sphere, cannot be ruled out.
Totti’s return to Roma, therefore, is becoming increasingly concrete: today as an ambassador, tomorrow who knows.
