Mexico and Portugal play out gritty goalless draw Mexico and Portugal locked horns Saturday evening as the renovated Estadio Azteca experienced a full house. Despite the fireworks off the pitch to welcome the legendary venue back into the picture, the two sides only managed to play out a goalless draw. We saw strong starting lineups from both sides, but despite the star-power on the pitch, neither goalkeeper had all that much to do in between the sticks.
There was plenty of back-and-forth between the two sides, as the match nearly boiled over on multiple occasions. Perhaps the best chance of the game fell to Armando González at the back-post, but somehow the Chivas winger could not connect with the header from point-blank range.
