Oregon-Northwestern softball game called in 7th inning so Ducks can catch flight

•Yahoo Sports

Oregon and Northwestern's softball game was called in the seventh inning so the Ducks could catch a flight home, despite the bases being loaded for NW.

Anyone who's almost missed a flight due to another engagement knows the feeling. The nervous checking of the watch, the foot tapping, the feeling time is simultaneously frozen and slipping away at an impossible rate. Oregon softball apparently experienced just that feeling in its March 28 game with Northwestern , as it was called partway through the seventh inning and officially scored as a 4-2 win after six innings.

The reason? Oregon had put up three in the top of the seventh and Northwestern had gotten one back in the bottom to make it 7-3. The bigger problem?

The Wildcats had the bases loaded and could have tied the score up with one swing. It was called a drop-dead timed game, and Northwestern's post on X (formerly known as Twitter) betrays its feelings pretty entirely. With the tying run at the plate, one out, we've reached a drop-dead time due to Oregon's travel...
