Wisconsin men's hockey wins overtime thriller vs. Michigan State
The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey season seemed to be over when they gave up three straight goals to No. 3 Michigan State. Somehow, Wisconsin prevailed.
A pair of goals in a 30-second stretch helped the team force overtime, a period that wouldn't last long at all. The Badgers scored just 24 seconds into overtime which sent them to Las Vegas for the Frozen Four. Wisconsin overcame Dartmouth, 5-1, and now has defeated Michigan State , 4-3, as they're the first team to punch their ticket to the Frozen Four.
Ben Dexheimer scored the winner at the 0:24 mark in overtime. Wisconsin got the party started with a goal 0:18 into the second period thanks to Quinn Finley. From there, the Spartans saw Gavin O'Connell, Patrick Geary, and Matt Basgall all find the back of the net.
Wisconsin trailed 3-1 but didn't let it phase them. Luke Osburn added a goal at 15:13 in the third period with Gavin Morrissey coming up with one of his own at 15:47. Daniel Hauser may have allowed three goals, but Wisconsin's offense came alive late and his 27 saves proved to be more than enough.
Wisconsin will play the winner of North Dakota vs. Quinnipiac on April 9 with the National Championship game taking place on April 11. Contact/Follow @TheBadgersWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Wisconsin Badgers news, notes and opinion .
