When was Iowa basketball's most recent trip to the Final Four? Find out here.

The last time Iowa men's basketball played in a Final Four, the Pac-Man video game had yet to be released, CNN was not yet on TV sets, Mount St. Helens was dormant and Ronald Reagan was a few months from being elected president. Those were among the year's biggest events in 1980, the Hawkeyes' most recent appearance in the national semifinals.

Coach Lute Olson and the 1980 Hawkeyes beat Georgetown 81-80 in the Elite Eight, clinching the school's first Final Four berth since 1956. Steve Waite's basket-and-free throw with five seconds left was the winning play for Iowa. Other top players on the 1979-80 Hawkeyes included Ronnie Lester, Kenny Arnold, Steve Krafcisin, Kevin Boyle and Vince Brookins.

Iowa played Louisville in Final Four, losing 80-72 in Indianapolis. This year's Hawkeyes have a chance to get there, too. They beat Nebraska in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night, and they play Illinois in the Elite Eight on Saturday (5:09 p.

m. CT, TBS and truTV). This year's Final Four?
