Diaz, Cline lead Goshen baseball returnees

Goshen’s baseball was two innings away from the Class 4A state championship game last season, before eventually falling 4-1 to eventual state champion Valparaiso. The season, head coach JJ DuBois has seven seniors with plenty of varsity experience returning, including the No. 1 pitcher and the team’s top hitter from a year ago.

“This is probably the most experienced group I’ve ever coached,’’ DuBois said. “We have nine seniors and seven have played significant on-field roles, while the other two will be vital to our success as well because of what they can bring to our team. ’’ Ryen Diaz had an outstanding tournament for the RedHawks last season, beating Penn in the regional and Westfield at the South Bend Semistate.

He posted a 6-3 mark in 2025 with a 2. 27 ERA. With the graduation of Kian Miller, Bray Hoag and Bryson Wilson will move up in the rotation after each saw action on the mound last season.

Aaron DeMott, Jensen Meikle, Spencer Elliott, Colton Rapp and perhaps Braxton Cline will also pitch some for Goshen this spring. Cline, the team’s shortstop, is back after hitting . 425 last season, with 12 doubles, five triples a a team-high 22 RBIs.

Rapp hit just . 229 last season, but he did it with power, finishing with nine doubles and a pair of homers, while ranking second to Cline with 20 RBIs. Senior Jensen Meikle returns after hitting .
