Bengals could still make free agent former All-Pro's wishes come true
A free agent said he wanted to play with the Bengals and Joe Burrow last offseason. Is this the offseason the Bengals consider making that happen?
The Cincinnati Bengals made one of the biggest splashes of NFL free agency when they signed Bryan Cook to upgrade the safety position. On paper, the Bengals want to pair Cook with Jordan Battle in the base defense. But more depth couldn’t hurt, right?
Roughly one year ago, free agent safety Justin Simmons publicly said he’d like to join the Bengals . Simmons didn’t end up joining a team last year while the Bengals went with Battle and Geno Stone. But he’s once again on the media circuit, hinting that he wants to sign with a contender this offseason.
During an appearance on Guerilla Sports' "The Weekly Cut," Simmons again stressed he wants to join a contender . Maybe this is something the Bengals consider down the line. They have two new starters, but the depth was lacking last season and just took a bigger hit when the Bengals lost Tycen Anderson …to these same Broncos.
The Bengals were not happy with depth options like Daijahn Anthony last year. They could add a safety as early as 10th overall in the upcoming draft. But if not, and Simmons is willing to take on a backup role, he’d certainly fit the veteran leadership mantra coaches have talked about for outside additions this offseason.
