Champions in 3 countries soon?! This club has cracked football Dominating a league for decades is something many clubs in the football world have managed to do. Whether it’s Bayern Munich in Germany, Celtic in Scotland, or PSG in France – all three teams have won the title in nearly every season over the past ten years.
But the following club can only smile at the idea of a championship streak in just one country. Sudanese serial champions Al Hilal Club are currently on course to win the top-flight title in a third country (source: “11Freunde”). Unfortunately, the reason is far less cheerful.
After civil war broke out in 2023, the Premier League was suspended with immediate effect. For the time being, Al Hilal was left without a league. Fortunately, the African football confederation (CAF) granted the reigning champions a special exemption.
Until further notice, Al Hilal Club was allowed to compete in any other professional league in Africa, according to an official press release. No sooner said than done: Al Hilal signed up for the Mauritanian Super D1 and – of course – won the title right away. Champions in two countries?
That’s far too ordinary. Since the current season, the Blue Wave has been “flowing” through the Rwandan Premier League as well. At the moment, Sudan’s serial champions sit in second place, one point behind leaders APR despite having played three fewer matches.
