The 6-foot, 185-pound safety had over 20 Division I offers, ultimately choosing Iowa over schools such as Illinois, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Northwestern.

He had visits lined up with the Hawkeyes, Fighting Illini, and Wildcats over the next few months, but decided to make things official on Saturday. Thies saw his stock rise a ton after a dominant performance in the State Championship game last season, where he had 18 total tackles and an interception on defense while adding 161 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. He's a do-it-all gadget player who will fit nicely into whatever role the coaching staff has for him when he arrives on campus.
