Denver Summit smash NWSL attendance record with 63,004 fans at home opener in Mile High Stadium

The number is the highest attendance for a women's professional sports event in the U.S., passing the 40,000-fan record set by Bay FC last season.

The Denver Summit are making history in their inaugural season. The expansion squad welcomed 63,004 fans at its home opener at Mile High Stadium on Sunday, the largest standalone crowd at any women’s professional sports event in the United States. The Summit had previously announced that they had sold more than 60,000 tickets to the game, though an exact number was not announced until partway through the second half.

Mile High, the home of the Denver Broncos, has a capacity of 76,125, leaving the Summit just 13,000 short of selling out an NFL stadium. The number absolutely smashes the previous NWSL attendance record of 40,000, set last year by Bay FC, who hosted 40,091 fans in the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park last August. Previously, the Chicago Stars had set a record in 2024 with 35,038 fans in Wrigley Field .

Saturday’s home opener will be the Summit’s only game in Mile High this season. The team will play two games in Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the home of the Colorado Rapids, before moving into newly-built Centennial Stadium this summer. Denver will play the rest of the season in Centennial, which is set to be a temporary venue while the club builds a permanent stadium.

The franchise closed on the property , located at Santa Fe Yards, earlier this week. Boston Legacy, the other expansion team added this year, hosted 30,207 fans for their home opener on March 14 in the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium. The Legacy will play about half of their games at Gillette, and the other half at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, due to scheduling conflicts and the installation of grass for the World Cup.
