Michigan's Rod Moore poised to return after knee issues: 'Finally taking that next step'
After receiving a sixth year of eligibility, Michigan safety Rod Moore is back, feeling better than ever, he said, following knee surgeries.
Ann Arbor — It seems like forever since Rod Moore made the game-sealing interception against Ohio State in 2023 to preserve Michigan’s unbeaten season. Moore admits he could have left for the NFL following that season, but after helping the Wolverines win a national championship , he chose to return. At the start of spring practice in 2024, however, Moore tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
He would miss the season, but he was voted a captain and remained active with the team coaching and cheering on his teammates. Moore was a captain again last season, but his play was limited. Following the ACL surgery, he had surgery on the medial collateral ligament in December 2024, and he just never fully recovered.
He received a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA in January, and Moore is back, feeling better than ever, he said, and ready for his sixth season. “When I was a young guy, I was making fun of the sixth years,” Moore said, laughing. “Now I’m the sixth year.
It’s real important. Last one. I’m trying to go get a championship so I have two of them big ‘ol rings.
