Jaylen Waddle trade reportedly wasn't a surprise to new Dolphins QB

Yahoo Sports

The Dolphins sent wideout Jaylen Waddle to the Broncos in a trade earlier this month, and while it was surprise for many, it wasn't for Malik Willis.

The Miami Dolphins made one of the biggest moves of the offseason when they sent wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and a draft pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for three selections in the 2026 NFL draft. While the move was shocking to many, the Dolphins reportedly let new quarterback Malik Willis know about the potential trade before it happened. "They gave, as far as John-Eric Sullivan, the general manager, and the head coach, Jeff Hafley, Malik Willis a heads up, a conversation before they traded Jaylen Waddle," NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported on Friday .

"He was in the know of this decision, and he's still all-in on the plan just like they were when they signed him in free agency. This isn't a shock adjustment to what particularly happened. "Malik Willis was signed because they view him as a potential long-term answer there.

It's not a Band-Aid addition. He essentially has a two-year, $45 million guarantee from people who know him very well. He's there to be the starter.

The Dolphins do plan to continue to add competition, so don't be surprised if they draft a quarterback in April... This is a clear runway for Malik Willis with a young team to show that he can be the long-term answer and give Jeff Hafley's squad something to believe in, in year one of the rebuild as well. " It would be interesting to know if Willis would've signed with Miami had he known they were trading Waddle before he decided to join the Dolphins.
