The summer break has been relatively quiet so far, with few concrete updates about the next round of team changes. Most of the focus has been on which teams will use which machinery next year.
Aldeguer has already established himself as one of the sport’s top young talents. After stepping up to MotoGP in 2025, he spent two years with Gresini before making his latest move. Despite not picking up a win yet, he’s come close on several occasions and is widely considered one of the most promising riders in recent seasons.
Neither Fabio Di Giannantonio nor Franco Morbidelli have re-signed with VR46 for 2027, leaving both seats open heading into next year. Rumours are growing that Ai Ogura could be the rider called up from Moto2 to fill the spot alongside Aldeguer if VR46 decide not to bring back either Di Giannantonio or Morbidelli. Chércoles suggested that if the team decides against keeping either Di Giannantonio or Morbidelli, they could look towards Moto2 and bring in VR46 Academy member Celestino Vietti. “One of the major signing moves for next year is that Fermín Aldeguer will be a VR46 rider next season. Aldeguer will continue to ride a Ducati, but he’ll be swapping the sky blue of the Gresini team for the fluorescent yellow of VR46,” Chércoles explained.
