Ostrowski sets record in 100 backstroke
Hawaii’s Karol Ostrowski set a school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 45. 96 on Friday at the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships in Atlanta. Ostrowski, a senior from Strachoin, Poland, won Heat 1 and finished 39th overall.
He also holds UH records in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. In the 50 freestyle Friday, Ostrowski placed 26th in 19. 19.
Rainbow Warriors diver Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, a sophomore from Medellin, Colombia, placed 43rd in the 3-meter springboard event with a score of 296. 10. UH softball team topples CS Northridge Taryn Irimata pitched a three-hitter and Millie Fidge drove in three runs as the Hawaii softball team beat Cal State Northridge 7-1 on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Irimata walked two and struck out three. Fidge drove in a run with a ground out in the first and hit a two-run homer in the third. Kolbi Kochi also homered for the Rainbow Wahine (14-14, 6-4 Big West).
Savannah Simons had a run-scoring ground out in the fourth for the Matadors (9-17, 5-5). The teams will play a doubleheader today starting at noon.
