Columbus Blue Jackets' Marchment on missed goal: 'It was just unlucky'

Yahoo Sports

Columbus Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment initially blamed himself for a missed tying goal, but replays showed goalie interference.

Mason Marchment didn’t allow negative thoughts to linger after his spoiled attempt to tap home a tying goal late in the Blue Jackets’ 2-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on March 26. The Blue Jackets forward will face the San Jose Sharks on March 28 at Nationwide Arena with a clear mind after watching replays that confirmed how the puck slid from inside the crease to outside the right goal post with 36 seconds left to play. Canadiens goalie Jakub Dobes, an Ohio State alum, made a desperation save he wasn't credited for.

“Once we got on the bus, it was old news,” Marchment said March 27. “I got to see it, and it was just unlucky. I mean, I think his glove came down and hit my stick right as I was trying to hit it in, and it just got a piece of it.

An opposing “golfer” gave it some unwanted help, just as Dobes did in a 25-save victory to win a game mostly dominated by the Blue Jackets. “I wanted to see (the replay) because I felt something, and I wanted to know if it was the (defenseman) behind me or the goalie’s glove,” Marchment said.
