One of the more important orders of business involves finding a way to lock up superstar cornerback Christian Gonzalez on a long-term contract extension. Gonzalez spent the majority of the 2025 campaign confirming that he is one of the best players at his position in the NFL, and as he prepares to enter his fourth season, he is in line for a major pay raise. While the overarching expectation is that he will earn a new deal this offseason, Patriots insider Greg Bedard doesn't necessarily believe that is the case .
“My gut instinct, I do think that Vrabel wants to see more from Christian Gonzalez before he fully invests," Bedard said on his "Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast. " Assuming the Pats exercise the fifth-year option in Gonzalez's contract (which is a no-brainer), the front office still has ample time to find a way to hammer out a new deal here. To avoid any holdout, though, both sides will likely want to get this done as quickly as possible.
Right now, the Patriots' primary objective is getting ready for the 2026 NFL Draft, but at some point, they will have to address Gonzalez's situation. It may not happen this offseason, but it would be a shock if New England doesn't eventually give one of its top players what he's looking for.
