Two ways for Commanders to fill biggest remaining need
The Washington Commanders are still seeking a wide receiver to take attention from Terry McLaurin, and there are two very good options to explore.
General manager Adam Peters has made strides with the Washington Commanders ' roster this offseason. Armed with around $90 million in cap space when free agency began, Peters targeted "younger and faster" players across the roster, specifically on defense. Peters even signed an athletic tight end to give Jayden Daniels some help.
Peters hasn't been able to fill all of the gaps on the Commanders ' roster, though. There is a glaring need that must be addressed in the draft: Wide receiver. A recent CBS Sports article suggests two possible fixes for the Commanders, one free agent and one draft prospect.
Free agent fit: Brandon Aiyuk Draft fit: Carnell Tate, Ohio State The Commanders were in on both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs but ended up with neither. They mostly focused on the defensive side in free agency. The offensive free agents they added -- Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson -- arrived on cheap, one-year deals.
Once the 49ers release him, Aiyuk is expected to be the next addition, but Washington could (and should) still do more. This isn't the first time these names have come up regarding the Commanders, and one thing people have to remember is that Brandon Aiyuk isn't a free agent — yet. He's still under contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
