Texas A&M should pursue Colorado transfer guard
One the transfer portal officially opens, Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan should target Colorado guard Isaiah Johnson, who is a Houston native.
Texas A&M's first season under head coach Bucky McMillan was a massive success, finishing 22-12 and 11-7 in SEC play, earning a fourth consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament after being picked to finish 13th in the conference with less than a 35% chance of making the big dance. Just weeks before the 2025-2026 season started, it was well known that, once the season ended, the Aggies would lose a large chunk of McMillan's first roster, including star forward Rashaun Agee, who led the team in scoring and rebounding and earned All-SEC Third Team honors. Needing more size in the front court, something that directly led to nearly every one of the Aggies' 12 losses, McMillan will now have a full offseason to rebuild the roster, and, most importantly, retain key pieces, including forward Zach Clemence, Spanish sharpshooter Ruben Dominguez, and guards Marcus Hill and Pop Isaacs.
Outside of adding more size, landing a scoring guard with the ability to take over a game when needed is critical in McMillan's high-scoring offense, and on Friday, Colorado transfer guard Isaiah Johnson, who averaged 16. 9 points per game during his freshman season, shooting 48. 6% from the field and 37.
8% from beyond the arc. A pure scorer with elite potential, acquiring the Houston native will cost the Aggies some dough, but given Texas A&M's success on the national stage this season, Johnson would greatly benefit from playing in a system that would allow him to shoot at will and thrive near the rim, and combined with added size, McMillan's second season should result in a fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
