Joe Flacco shuts down Bengals' 'winning culture' drama
A recent Bengals free agent had some things to say about winning cultures. So does Joe Flacco.
He certainly didn’t mean to, but Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco provided a big counterpoint to another Bengals free agent recently. While chatting about why he re-signed with the Bengals, Flacco brought up the team’s winning culture. Among the many quotables, Flacco said this: “The biggest part is the chance to be a part of a winning culture and a winning football team.
” Bengals fans recently had to deal with similar quotes when Bengals free agent Geno Stone joined the Buffalo Bills and said that he was “back into a winning culture” with that AFC squad. Stone later clarified his comments and they indeed seemed like standard player-speak after signing with a new team. But the damage, at least in the minds of Bengals fans who were already exhausted with Stone, was done.
So, for those Bengals fans who needed a little more positivity about the team’s direction, the longtime veteran Flacco, who could have signed almost anywhere in the NFL, decided to stick with the Bengals. Not that Flacco is the only proof. Bryan Cook and Boye Mafe had brushes with Super Bowls on their former teams before signing with the Bengals.
And longtime veteran Jonathan Allen, who has rarely experienced playoff success , could have chosen many contenders to join, yet landed in Cincinnati. We’re happy to have you here, Joe. pic.
