Scouting Future Saints: Georgia tight end Oscar Delp

Yahoo Sports

While unlikely it happens, drafting Oscar Delp makes some sense for the New Orleans Saints. The Georgia Bulldogs tight end is on the rise.

Free agent tight end Noah Fant was a surprise signing by the New Orleans Saints this offseason. Fant will team with Juwan Johnson to give New Orleans their best pair of tight ends in over a decade. Nevertheless, the Saints are also meeting with some tight ends during the pre-draft process.

The most prominent name among them so far is Georgia Bulldogs star Oscar Delp, one of the top players at the position. Delp is projected to be no worse than a Day 2 pick. With the addition of Fant, it would be somewhat surprising if the Saints brought in another tight end with an early selection.

However, he'd also add some traditional talents to the tight end room and be another weapon for young quarterback Tyler Shough. With superstar Brock Bowers ahead of him, Delp would just get situational playing time over his first two seasons.

Still, he'd catch 24 passes for 284 yards alongside Bowers in 2023. Both numbers wound up being the best of his collegiate career. Bowers was off to the NFL in 2024, giving Delp a more prominent role.
