SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The rain didn’t faze the defending state champs Friday night. It was a misty night at the No. 7 Wall Hawks’ home field, but the inclement weather couldn’t stop Wall’s recent dominance.
In their matchup versus district rival Merkel, the Hawks trailed 2-0 after the first inning. But that deficit was short lived. Wall immediately responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, but blew it open just one inning later with 10 unanswered runs to lead 12-2.
The Hawks added even more insurance runs in the third inning en route to a 14-2 lead. The Hawks won the game by that final score, securing their 13th straight win to improve to 15-7 after a 2-7 start. Wall travels to Merkel next on Tuesday, March 31 for game two of this home-and-away series.
