Former Mets Pitcher Claimed By White Sox

Bryan Hudson quickly resurfaces with the White Sox after a spring struggle, leaving the Mets short-handed as their season begins.

The first game of the 2026 MLB season was a smashing success for the New York Mets. Freddy Peralta gave up an early two-run home run to Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Brandon Lowe in the top of the first inning. And, even though National League Cy Young winner Paul Skenes took the mound for Pittsburgh, the Mets chased him early.

Skenes gave up five runs in just 0. 2 innings before he was removed from the game in stunning fashion. In the end, the Mets won, 11-7, on Opening Day to start the season off in an impressive way.

On Friday, the Mets had a day off before resuming the series on Saturday at Citi Field with David Peterson taking the mound against Mitch Keller. Also on Friday, the Mets saw a familiar face leave as pitcher Bryan Hudson was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox. Two other Mets players cleared waivers and were sent to Triple-A.
