Teen amateur fires 65, vaults into top 10 at LPGA event
Asterisk Talley has won her last three junior starts and is now contending on the LPGA.
Asterisk Talley sizzled in the desert on Friday at the Ford Championship. The 17-year-old amateur finished with four consecutive birdies to tie the day's lowest round, a 7-under 65, and vault to 10 under for the tournament. Her 134 total is a career best in six LPGA starts and the lowest total score by an amateur on tour since 2021.
Talley, a Stanford commit, doubled her fifth hole of the day, the par-4 14th, and played the last 11 holes in eight under. The high school junior, who finished runner-up at last year's Augusta National Women's Amateur, has won her last three junior events. She's currently in a share of ninth, three strokes back of the clubhouse lead.
"I was feeling good coming into these two tournaments," said Talley. "I knew my game was in the right place coming in, especially after coming back from Sage Valley. I think that was just really nice to know that I had the game for these upcoming weeks and I'm super excited to come into these.
" Talley will have good friend Miles Russell at the ANWA . Russell, who like Talley is the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2027, Monday-qualified for this week's Club Car Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour and is currently T-29 after two rounds.
