Tennessee Lady Vols women's basketball assistant coach Roman Tubner has interviewed for the head coach opening at Kennesaw State.

Kim Caldwell may be losing one of her top assistant coaches at Tennessee. Lady Vols assistant coach Roman Tubner interviewed this week for the head coach opening at Kennesaw State, six people familiar with the search told USA TODAY Sports. Should Tubner leave, he would be the latest member of the Tennessee women’s basketball team to depart Knoxville after a disappointing season.

The Lady Vols totaled their most losses in program history this year with 14 and finished on an eight-game losing streak, capped off by a loss to NC State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Four players so far — Lauren Hurst, Deniya Prawl, Alyssa Latham and Kaniya Boyd — have announced their intentions to transfer . Kennesaw State has an opening for a head coach after firing Octavia Blue following four seasons in which she had a 61-89 record.

The Owls have never been to the NCAA Tournament since moving up to Division I in 2005. People familiar with the search told USA TODAY Sports that Louisville assistant Jonneshia Pineda and Howard head coach Ty Grace have also been targeted by Kennesaw State. The Owls are using Parker Executive Search to find their next women’s basketball coach.

Tubner, 36, joined Tennessee’s staff when Caldwell was hired to lead the Lady Vols in 2024. He was previously an assistant at Alabama for three seasons under Kristy Curry and Ball State, UNC-Wilmington, Indiana State, Austin Peay and in the Division II ranks.
