Bengals still haven’t answered biggest question left in free agency

The Bengals approach the NFL draft with a big question mark on the roster.

As the Cincinnati Bengals approach what should probably be classified as Wave 3 of NFL free agency, they have yet to hit on their biggest remaining need. That need is still linebacker, a position the Bengals allegedly threw on the back burner on purpose while spending big money at edge and safety during Wave 1. Given the wealth of mid-tier names still available who fit the highly experienced classification the Bengals need, though, there’s no reason to think they will really rush this process.

Some of the names include: LB Bobby Wagner LB Bobby Okereke LB Matt Milano That’s how the list of best remaining Bengals free agent targets overall looks right now. Still, it’s hard to undersell the importance here. The Bengals have talked openly about how they failed to get the proper veterans in the room at linebacker last year.

The Oren Burks signing didn’t work out and Logan Wilson sort of blew up in their faces when he asked out. Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter remain the plan as the starters, but the inaction so far flies in the face of what some members of the Bengals said publicly about this offseason. Maybe that changes with one of the remaining veterans on the market after the draft, but right now, the linebacker spot continues to perplex, since adding even a top-10 player at the spot doesn't fix the veteran presence problem.
