The Kentucky Wildcats have gotten their first commitment in the 2026 recruiting class in point guard Mason Williams.

Big Blue Nation has waited patiently, or not, as the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team whiffed on multiple recruits in the 2026 class. On Friday, they were finally rewarded, as Mark Pope has landed his first commitment, and it's a good one. Mason Williams is a 6'2", 185 lb point guard out of Tennessee.

He rated as a four-star player by 247Sports and ranks just outside the top 100 overall, and is the number 12 point guard in the class. He's also the son of former NBA player Mo Williams, who won an NBA championship alongside Lebron James in Cleveland in 2016. The younger Williams is a smooth guard who can shoot it well from all over, but is also a good passer who can create for others.

He averaged 15 points and 4 assists per game with Tennessee Collegiate Acadamy this past season, and is considered an ascending player. Interestingly, Williams originally committed to Jackson State, where his father is now the coach. However, he re-opened his recruitment, and ended up taking a visit to Kentucky .

He quickly signed with Pope. Williams becomes Pope's first member of the 2026 class to sign, and it's a good addition. Kentucky needs point guard depth, and Williams could develop into a starter very quickly.
