Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo sets NCAA single-season steals record vs. Vanderbilt
With her 193rd steal, Hidalgo surpassed the 192 by Lamar’s Chastadie Barrs in 2019, solidifying the achievement in an already historic junior campaign.
Fort Worth, TX ― Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo made history on March 27 against No. 2-seeded Vanderbilt, breaking the NCAA Division I single-season steals record during the first quarter. With her 193rd steal, Hidalgo surpassed the previous mark of 192 set in 2019 set by Lamar’s Chastadie Barrs, solidifying the achievement in an already historic junior campaign.
Along with the impressive milestone, she also broke the ACC single-season steals record and set a school record. From the moment the game tipped off, Hidalgo wasted no time making her presence felt. In the opening minutes, she was relentless, racking up multiple steals to help sixth-seeded Notre Dame jump out to an early lead.
Her ability to disrupt Vanderbilt’s offense was a key factor in Notre Dame's strong start. By halftime, Hidalgo had already accumulated seven steals along with 16 points to lead Notre Dame to a 31-26 advantage. Hidalgo’s career-high in steals in a game is 16 against Akron on Nov.
12, 2025. The single-game record for steals in the NCAA Tournament is 14, set by Old Dominion’s Ticha Penicheiro in 1998. Hidalgo's relentless pursuit on defense puts her within striking distance of that historic mark.
