Golfer Tiger Woods arrested on DUI charge after rollover crash in Florida
Golfer Tiger Woods was arrested for DUI after being in a rollover car crash on Friday afternoon in South Florida. The crash happened shortly before 2 p. m.
in Jupiter Island on South Beach Road, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< A pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner was driving northbound and starting to pull into a driveway when the driver noticed a dark Land Rover overtaking him at high speeds, MCSO said. The truck driver tried to edge over on the side of the road, but there was no shoulder to move to.
As the driver was trying to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover swerved to try to avoid the truck, but hit the back of the trailer and rolled onto the driver’s side. The driver of the Land Rover, later identified as Woods, crawled out of the passenger’s side door, MCSO said. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter ] No one was injured in the crash.
Woods exemplified signs of impairment from tests by the DUI unit, MCSO said. Investigators did not assume the impairment was from alcohol and that was correct, as Woods blew a 0. 00 on the Breathalyzer test.
Investigators believed his impairment was due to drugs or medication, MCSO said. [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks ] Woods refused to take a urine test and MCSO said he was cooperative during the investigation, but did not want to incriminate himself. Woods is expected to be released from jail on bond on Friday night.
