Barcelona star picks Arsenal player as world’s best in his position FC Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has selected Arsenal’s David Raya as his choice for the current best goalkeeper in the world. Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been speaking to the Spanish media this week, and he was asked by El Larguero reporters who he thinks is the best goalkeeper in the world right now. “I like David Raya ,” Garcia answered .
“I think he’s having a fantastic season in the Premier League. I also think he’s under very high demands, especially regarding set pieces, as we mentioned before, and with his feet too. “I think the level is very high, and I’m really enjoying his season.
” Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images It’s nice of Garcia to pick Raya as his standout goalkeeper this season, particularly given Raya isn’t actually Spain’s first-choice. Unai Simon has started every game for Spain since his return from injury at the end of 2024, so perhaps the diplomatic answer would have been to pick the Athletic Club goalkeeper, particularly considering Garcia is also involved in the Spain camp this month. Instead, Garcia opted for Spain’s backup, and Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Simon has been his favoured option for so long now, but he’s arguably being outperformed by both Raya and Garcia this season. Picking purely on form, it would have to be one of the latter pair, but neither of them have half the major tournament experience that Simon has.
The 28-year-old has already represented Spain at multiple Euros, in multiple Nations League finals, and in the 2022 World Cup. By contrast, Raya has made one appearance at Euro 2024, and Garcia hasn’t made his Spain debut. So does the Spain boss go with the goalkeepers in form, or the one who has been here before?
