Gerald McCoy slams Cam Stattebo for his CTE comments.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo got into a lot of hot water recently for his comments about CTE. He called CTE an “excuse” and later tried to play it off as a bad joke, and would apologize. But a lot of people, including former NFL players, didn’t think the joke was funny and are now calling out the Giants running back.

“I have teammates that passed away. Vincent Jackson... Doug Martin, anybody who knows Doug knows that wasn't Doug.

Let's be careful on the things we are saying because you never know who it affects,” said former NFL defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A lot of former NFL players are suffering from CTE, and some have died from the effects of it, including committing suicide. So, when Skattebo made those comments, it hit home for a lot of former players like McCoy, who have lost teammates to this dreadful disease.

To his credit, Skattebo apologized; however, it may take more than an apology to resolve this controversy. Maybe Skattebo needs to talk to former players who are actually living with CTE for him to understand how serious this disease is and why what he said was so insensitive.
