Real Madrid veteran superstar currently dealing with two injuries – report Earlier this month, Real Madrid were dealt a massive blow, as star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois picked up an injury during the game against Manchester City. The Belgian international was eventually ruled out on the sidelines, with Real Madrid’s official note confirming that the player has suffered a muscle injury in the rectus femoris (anterior rectus) of his right quadriceps. Courtois is nursing two injuries However, a recent report from Melchor Ruiz has suggested that this is only half of the problem, as far as Courtois is concerned.

As per the journalist, the veteran goalkeeper is also dealing with an overload in his left adductor, a secondary issue he first flagged to the coaching staff during the pre-match warm-up at the Etihad. While the adductor overload is considered minor, it likely contributed to the mechanical strain that led to the more severe quad tear during the first half. Courtois is currently suffering from different problems.

This timeline is particularly damaging as it rules him out for both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich in April, as well as a series of critical La Liga fixtures as Madrid attempts to close the four-point gap on Barcelona. With the Belgian wall unavailable until at least mid-May, the responsibility now falls solely on Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian must now step into the breach once again during the most defining period of the season. He has the track record of being a reliable alternative to Courtois in the past. But whether or not he can repeat the feat this season remains to be seen.
