Midfielders are so crucial to the functioning of a proper football club, progressing the ball up the pitch, creating chances, and logging thousands of minutes and hundreds of kilometers, so you can never have enough quality players in that role. Today, we’re adding another corollary to that rule: You never forget your first love. Forsaken in the summer of 2017 during the doomed Gregoire Defrel deal, Roma has coveted Davide Frattesi for nearly ten years.

After a successful stint with Sassuolo, Frattesi made a big-money move to Inter Milan in 2024. While the Roman-born midfielder hasn’t exactly redefined the limits of the position since moving to San Siro, he scored 11 goals in his first two seasons with the club, including six during their 2023-2024 title-winning campaign. Since then, however, Frattesi has fallen down the ranks at Inter Milan, logging only 512 minutes in Serie A this season, prompting many to speculate that the Nerazzurri will seek an upgrade this summer.

Their reported top target is Roma’s Manu Koné. with the Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting that Inter may be willing to spend €50 million to land the French midfielder . But there is a notable twist to the rumor: To defray the cost, the GdS reports that Inter are willing to include Frattesi in a swap deal to offset part of the expense.
