Iowa women’s basketball guard Kennise Johnson entering transfer portal
After seeing limited action in two seasons with an ACL tear in between, Iowa women’s basketball guard Kennise Johnson is entering the transfer portal.
IOWA CITY — Iowa women’s basketball guard Kennise Johnson is entering the transfer portal after three seasons with the program, she confirmed March 27 on social media. Originally a class of 2023 prospect from outside Chicago, Johnson joined the Hawkeyes while Iowa sported a loaded backcourt ahead of its 2024 Final Four run. An ACL tear toward the end of freshman season sidelined her for the entire 2024-25 campaign, and Johnson has struggled to stay healthy since.
The 5-foot-4 guard appeared in just 20 games — 14 as a freshman and six this past season — while producing nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal in her career. Johnson scored two points against Drake this season, along with two against Purdue-Fort Wayne, one against Minnesota and four against Wisconsin as a freshman. Although Iowa lists Johnson as a junior, she could likely have two years of eligibility remaining if a medical redshirt is obtained for the sophomore season she missed entirely.
The transfer-portal window officially opens April 6 after the national championship game and runs through April 20. Dargan Southard is a sports trending reporter and covers Iowa athletics for the Des Moines Register and HawkCentral. com.
