Clippers Roasted For Wishing Luck to Dodgers Rivals
Baseball season is officially back. Multiple MLB teams opened their 2026 seasons on Thursday, including all three Southern California teams: the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres. Before the Opening Day games, the Los Angeles Clippers wished all three teams good luck on their new seasons.
Although this seems like a nice gesture from the franchise, the Clippers received some criticism for supporting the Angels and Padres. The Angels and Padres are rivals of the defending back-to-back World Series champions. The Dodgers are also the only team truly located in Los Angeles.
Despite the franchise name, the Angels are located in Orange County, and a new bill could force the Angels to put ‘Anaheim’ back in its name. With the Clippers also being located in Los Angeles, some fans said the Clippers should have only wished the Dodgers good luck. The Clippers used to be based in San Diego from 1978 to 1984.
The franchise also has a G league affiliate in San Diego called the San Diego Clippers. Therefore, the Clippers’ support for the Padres makes sense but still left some fans unhappy. One fan pointed out that both the Clippers and Padres still have not won a championship.
Lakers Only Wished Dodgers Luck The Los Angeles Lakers, on the other hand, remained loyal to the Dodgers by making a full social media post dedicated to wishing the team good luck during the 2026 season. This makes sense because the Lakers and Dodgers are both owned by Mark Walter. Former Lakers legend Magic Johnson is also a minority owner of the Dodgers.
