Why Henry Cejudo thinks Israel Adesanya retires with UFC Seattle loss

Yahoo Sports

Henry Cejudo doesn't see Israel Adesanya continuing to fight if he fails to rebound at UFC Fight Night 271. Adesanya (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) will look to snap a three-fight losing skid when he takes on rising middleweight Joe Pyfer (15-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in Saturday's main event ( Paramount+ ) at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. During the most recent episode of the "Pound 4 Pound" podcast, Kamaru Usman said he doesn't see his friend Adesanya retiring with a loss, but Cejudo thinks otherwise.

"Yes," Cejudo said. "It depends in what fashion, but I think so. I think when the ship has sailed, the ship has sailed.

I think you just come to realization that – and I'm speaking for myself – maybe it's not so much the talent, but it's more the desire. It's more of I want to do other things with my time now. There are things you enjoy more, and I think Israel is already there.

"He's already DJ'ing. He's doing a bunch of other stuff. He's already kind of planning for his future.

So when people start to do things already, they know the time is coming. Even for me, I was already in real estate, the content business pretty heavy. So yeah, I do feel like if Israel gets finished or loses this fight, I think he's done.
