Steelers add speed threat at WR in Field Yates’ mock draft
Steelers eye more firepower at receiver, with elite speed and SEC production adding a new dimension to its evolving offense.
Despite addressing the position with Michael Pittman, Jr. , wide receiver still looms as a long-term priority for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. In his latest mock, Field Yates has Pittsburgh selecting Brenen Thompson, adding another dynamic weapon to the offense.
“One of my favorite value moves of the offseason was Pittsburgh trading for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. , but the team must continue to address that position,” Yates wrote , praising both the Steelers ' offseason approach and the potential fit. “Thompson ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the combine (4.
26 seconds) and led the SEC in receiving yards this past season (1,054). He can consistently get separation downfield, which will translate well to the next level. ” Prior to free agency, the Steelers appeared likely to target a receiver early to pair with DK Metcalf.
The addition of Pittman helped stabilize the room, especially after missing out on rumored target Alec Pierce. Still, questions remain about long-term depth and explosiveness. Those concerns were evident in 2025, when Pittsburgh ranked 21st in receiving yards with 3,632.
