Speaking to Bild, 72-year-old Magath said he believes Neuer can be ranked alongside legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. "When it comes to Manuel’s performances, his importance for Bayern and the national team, as well as his achievements, I see him in his position on the same level as Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo," Magath told Bild.
With Neuer’s contract expiring at the end of the season, it's unclear whether the 40-year-old will continue playing. Magath believes it's too soon for the Bayern shot-stopper to retire. “I think he will be able to decide for himself whether he wants to continue at Bayern or not.
From the outside, I would say he still has all the abilities to keep going. My advice to him would be to make the most of that for as long as possible and not stop playing just yet. ”
